FORUM ON THE USE OF ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Organised by professors and researchers from the National Institute of Education (NIE) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU);
Dr Wong Meng Ee, Dr Libby Cohen, Ms Denise Tan and Ms Yang Xueyan
Supported by the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH).
Time: 2pm to 6pm
Venue: Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) School Hall via 51 Toa Payoh Rise.
Assistive Technology enables people with disabilities to accomplish daily living tasks, assist them in communication, education, work or recreation activities. In essence, it helps persons with disabilities achieve greater independence and enhances their quality of life.
In recent years, assistive technology for the visually impaired has advanced significantly. Screen readers, OCR, refreshable Braille, magnification devices and software have helped to improve the lives of the visually impaired. How much does this feature in your life? Are you already using assistive technology to access school, work, leisure activities, or are you still unsure what assistive technologies have to offer?
There will be discussions available for you to participate and discuss and share your experience with one another.

DAISY Digital Talking Book User Survey
The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) and the National Library Board (NLB) is conducting a study to evaluate the needs for DAISY Digital Talking (DTB) in Singapore.
The aim of this exploratory study is to gather feedback on user satisfaction and the reading experience of using DAISY talking books in order to enhance the service delivery/ policy on the provision of DAISY books to the public.
