The Retina is a light sensitive tissue which lines the inside of the eye at the back. It acts like the film in a camera and consists of several layers of cells, one layer of which has the ability to respond to light. In your eye there are two types of these light responding cells called Rod cells and Cone cells and their function is to convert the light falling upon them into electrical signals which are passed to the brain to construct a picture.
